Working Near High Voltage and Extra Hign Voltage Conductors

Here are some key safety tips for working in areas containing exposed live high voltage (HV) and extra high voltage (EHV) conductors:

  1. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including rubber gloves, insulating mats, and face shields.

  2. Check for electrical hazards before starting work. De-energize the circuit if possible and verify that it is safe to proceed.

  3. Always maintain a safe distance from live electrical conductors and equipment.

  4. Avoid using metal objects, such as tools and ladders, near live electrical conductors.

  5. Do not touch electrical equipment or conductors with wet hands or while standing on a wet or conductive surface.

  6. Avoid overloading electrical circuits and never remove or bypass safety devices.

  7. If you suspect that equipment is damaged or not functioning properly, do not touch it and report the issue to your supervisor immediately.

  8. Regularly inspect PPE and replace it if it is damaged or worn.

  9. If you come in contact with a live electrical conductor, do not panic. Try to remove yourself from the conductor as quickly and safely as possible and seek medical attention immediately.

  10. Always follow established procedures and safety regulations when working near live electrical conductors.

These safety tips are general guidelines and may vary depending on the specific requirements of the job site and the electrical system. It is important to be familiar with and follow all relevant safety standards and regulations.
